Eight Towers
Ordos 100, Inner Mongolia | 2009

As part of a group of 100 architects curated by Ai WeiWei and selected by Herzog and deMeuron, SsD designed this concept-driven home. Eight monolithic towers containing distinct programs deform to meet each other at different points. Organizing the program in this way creates experiential differences between rooms that are necessarily similar in size, while creating a high level of porosity within what is essentially a large house. It also permits greater efficiency, as only occupied towers need to consume energy.
